Good dental hygiene is the strong foundation on which your oral health is built.
At Face Teeth Smile in Chalfont St Peter, we firmly believe in preventative care, so we equip our patients with the knowledge needed to help them maintain dental hygiene, both during treatment and for the long term. Our dedicated dental hygienist is on hand to keep teeth clean and gums healthy.
When you visit your Face Teeth Smile dentist for treatment or a check-up, they’ll recommend how often you should see the dental hygienist. Over time, you may need more or fewer oral hygiene sessions, depending on your current oral health. Some patients only need one session in a year. In cases of severe gum disease, visits to our Chalfont St Peter practice may be necessary every three months.
A build-up of stains on the teeth is a common oral health problem discovered during dental hygiene sessions. We can effectively treat this using Airflow® stain removal, which involves effectively ‘jet washing’ the teeth using very fine grains of powder. There’s no damage to the enamel and you’re left with stain-free, brighter and squeaky-clean teeth. Your dental hygienist will also check for gum disease. In some instances, a process called ‘root surface debridement’ may be recommended. This is a deep clean of your gums and you’ll benefit from it if you have active gum disease, bleeding from the gums or plaque and hardened calculus under the gums. During the procedure, the teeth are cleaned above and underneath the gums, right up to the base. To ensure you don’t experience pain or sensitivity, we apply local anaesthetic to the area. After oral hygiene treatment, we teach you how to keep things scrupulously clean at home and invite you back for an oral health check up in three months to make sure of improvement.
While it’s possible to have an oral hygiene session at Face Teeth Smile without seeing the dentist, we recommend seeing the dentist for an initial in-depth examination. They can diagnose any gum disease, decay or other dental conditions that the dental hygienist can’t.
Yes, our Chalfont St Peter dental hygienists at Face Teeth Smile can clean, polish and repair your composite bonding or veneers as part of your Smile Maintenance package.
During your first dental hygiene session at our Chalfont St Peter clinic, we’ll assess your oral health and recommend if a more comprehensive session is needed. If so, an appointment of the appropriate length will be booked with one of our dental hygienists to ensure there’s time for your treatment to be delivered to Face Teeth Smile’s high standard of care.
