Gummy Smile
A gummy smile is one where there’s an imbalance between the size of the teeth and the amount of gum that’s on display. Every face is unique, but when most people smile, they reveal mainly teeth. If you reveal a lot of gum, and your teeth appear small, it can make your smile uneven and leave you feeling self-conscious.
People with gummy smiles may have a short upper lip or what’s known as a ‘hyperactive lip’, where the muscles under the nose pull the top lip up too far. Gumminess can also be caused by a misaligned bite, where the upper and lower jaws and teeth sit too far forward or back in relation to each other.

Periodontal treatment: the first step in managing a gummy smile is ensuring there’s no underlying infection or gum disease. We’ll assess the health of your gums and, if necessary, carry out thorough cleaning or root surface debridement.
Porcelain veneers: thin plates of very hard ceramic are bonded to the front of the natural teeth to increase their size, improve their shape and balance out the amount of gum that’s on show. They’re coloured to match the rest of your teeth for a natural look.
Laser gum contouring: if the gums sit low down on the teeth, it’s possible to reduce and reshape them using laser dentistry. The removal of even a very small amount of gum can be transformational.
Anti-wrinkle injections : is used to relax the muscles that control the top lip. This prevents the lip drawing back too far and ensures gums remain hidden.
