WIDE JAW

WideJaw-Hero

The appearance of a wide jaw can be genetic or acquired and is the result of the shape of your jaw or the size of your facial muscles.

When we chew, we use the masseter muscles, and when these become enlarged, they add bulk to the jaw. This can bring a heavy appearance in the lower face and give it a masculine aspect, even in women.

One of the main causes of a wide jaw is what’s known as ‘bruxism’ – the repeated grinding or clenching of the teeth. This can be stress-related or habitual and can happen while you’re awake and asleep. It can lead to several medical and dental conditions, from headaches to tooth sensitivity, as well as causing enlargement of the masseter muscles. Sufferers of bruxism often wear mouth guards overnight to prevent grinding and tooth wear.

Where a wide jaw is caused either by naturally large muscles or bruxism, anti-wrinkle injections can be a highly effective and long-lasting treatment. Small volumes of the toxin are expertly injected into the jaw muscles to relax them and reduce their strength. Following the procedure, you can expect:

•Debulked muscles
•A slimmer jaw
•Relaxation of muscle tension
•Relief from the pain caused by clenching and grinding
