LOST FILLINGS
There are lots of reasons for fillings being lost. It can happen if you bite down onto or chew food that’s sticky or hard enough to knock or wrench the filling out of its setting.
Temporary fillings that aren’t suitably strong or have been left in too long can also drop out. As can old fillings that are undermined by new decay.
When a filling comes out, you’re very likely to feel immediate sensitivity in the affected tooth when you eat or drink anything hot or cold. The edges of the hole that once held the filling might feel very sharp when touched with your tongue or cheek, while the hole itself can become a trap for food and be difficult to clean, leading to bad breath.
Lost fillings were serving a purpose to begin with, so they always need to be replaced. An exposed hole, crack or chip isn’t just uncomfortable, it can also become infected, begin to decay and result in toothache.

Not only are these an aesthetic solution that achieves an invisible repair on any surface of the tooth, but they’re also healthier for the patient and the environment.
If you’ve lost a filling and the remaining tooth is too damaged or decayed to be refilled, we can still save it by fitting a crown. This is a cap made from strong white ceramic that sits on top of your natural tooth to protect it. All of our bespoke crowns are crafted in our on-site dental lab in a single appointment and are expertly coloured to blend in with the rest of your teeth.
