Tooth Gems
Dr Raj Juneja, Cosmetic Dentist at Face Teeth Smile Dental Clinics, noted in an interview with Hello! magazine that while “They [tooth gems] are purely cosmetic and can be applied to either natural teeth or crowns, providing a subtle sparkle or statement look depending on the style chosen” they do need to be looked after. “From an oral health perspective, tooth gems are generally safe when applied by a trained professional. However, it’s important to be aware of potential risks. Improper application or prolonged wear can lead to enamel damage, tooth sensitivity, or staining. Food and plaque can also get trapped around the gem, increasing the risk of decay if good oral hygiene isn’t maintained. Tooth gems should not be applied over weakened enamel or decayed teeth, and individuals should ensure they are comfortable with cleaning around the gem daily.”
