Invisalign for kids is a popular and proven orthodontic technique for straightening teeth.
Children’s teeth and bites continue to change as they grow. Invisalign First is a clear aligner treatment designed specifically for younger children whose mouths are still developing, including children who have a mixture of baby and adult teeth.
At Face Teeth Smile, your child’s treatment is planned by our experienced orthodontist using detailed digital scans and advanced 3D technology. This allows us to assess their teeth, bite and development carefully before recommending the most appropriate next step.
Early orthodontic treatment is not necessary for every child. However, where a bite, spacing or crowding concern is developing, assessment at the right stage may make the problem more straightforward to manage and may reduce the complexity or length of treatment needed later.
Your child’s Invisalign journey begins with a relaxed, specialist-led orthodontic consultation. We will listen to your concerns, examine their teeth and bite, and assess how their jaws and smile are developing.
A detailed digital scan allows us to map the position of your child’s teeth precisely. Using advanced 3D planning, we can identify developing concerns and explain the available options clearly to both you and your child.
During the consultation, we will discuss whether the best next step is Invisalign First, another form of orthodontic care or simply monitoring your child’s development. If treatment is recommended, you will receive a personalised plan explaining:
You will have the opportunity to ask questions and understand the available choices before deciding whether to proceed.
Invisalign First uses a sequence of custom-made, removable clear aligners to guide your child’s teeth through a series of carefully planned movements.
The aligners are designed around the needs of growing children, including smaller teeth and permanent teeth that are still erupting. Depending on your child’s individual development, Invisalign First may be used to address concerns such as crowding, spacing, narrow dental arches and certain developing bite problems.
Each set of aligners is worn for the period prescribed by the orthodontist before your child moves on to the next set. Aligners are normally worn for 20-22 hours each day and removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing and flossing. Because the aligners are removable, your child can continue to brush and floss their teeth normally.
Regular orthodontic reviews allow us to check that the aligners fit correctly, monitor progress and observe how your child’s teeth and bite are developing. Consistent aligner wear and support from a parent or carer are important parts of successful treatment.
Some children may need a second phase of orthodontic treatment once more of their permanent teeth have erupted. Early treatment creates a better foundation for the developing smile but does not guarantee that no further orthodontic treatment will be required. Where Phase 2 treatment is needed, early intervention may help make it shorter or more straightforward.
An early orthodontic assessment can help us identify developing bite, crowding and spacing concerns while your child’s teeth and jaws are still growing. This does not mean treatment will always begin immediately. In some cases, the most appropriate recommendation will be to monitor development and review your child again at a later stage.
Where early treatment would be beneficial, acting at the right time may help prevent a developing concern from becoming more difficult to manage. It can also help create space for permanent teeth and provide a healthier foundation for the next stage of your child’s development.
Our orthodontist has experience ranging from early childhood intervention through to complex adult orthodontic cases. This depth of expertise allows us to assess your child’s current needs while also considering how their teeth, bite and facial development may change over time.
Every recommendation is based on your child rather than on a particular appliance. If Invisalign First is not the most appropriate option, we will explain why and discuss suitable alternatives or monitoring.
Treatment is available at our Chalfont St Peter clinic, near Gerrards Cross, and our Amersham clinic.
Take the first step towards specialist-led orthodontic care for your child.
Your child’s consultation can include:
There is no obligation to begin treatment. The aim of the appointment is to help you understand your child’s development, whether treatment is needed and which option would be most appropriate.
Invisalign First is a clear aligner treatment created specifically for growing children. It is commonly used during Phase 1 orthodontic treatment, when a child has a mixture of baby teeth and permanent teeth. The aligners are customised to fit smaller, developing teeth and can be planned to accommodate permanent teeth as they erupt.
Invisalign First is typically designed for children between 6 and 10 years old. However, suitability is determined by your child’s dental development rather than age alone. Our orthodontist will assess which teeth have erupted, how the jaws and dental arches are developing and whether there is a concern that would benefit from treatment now.
Some orthodontic concerns are easier to address while a child is still growing. Early treatment may be recommended to manage developing crowding, spacing, narrow arches or bite concerns, or to create more room for permanent teeth. An early assessment does not automatically mean your child needs treatment. In many cases, careful monitoring may be the most appropriate next step.
No. Invisalign First is designed to treat a broad range of developing orthodontic concerns, from relatively straightforward tooth movement to more involved crowding, spacing, narrow arches and bite problems. Whether it is suitable will depend on your child’s teeth, bite, growth and ability to wear the aligners consistently.
Treatment time is personalised to your child. A typical treatment period may be up to 18 months, depending on the type and severity of the orthodontic concern. We will provide a more specific estimate after examining your child and completing their digital scan.
Invisalign aligners are typically worn for 20-22 hours each day. They should normally be removed only for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing and flossing. Successful treatment depends on following the prescribed wear schedule, so parental support can be particularly important for younger children.
Yes. The aligners are removed for meals, so your child can continue to eat their usual foods without needing to avoid items because of fixed brackets or wires. Your child should brush their teeth before putting the aligners back in and should keep the aligners clean as directed by the orthodontic team.
Possibly. Invisalign First is normally used as Phase 1 treatment to address developing concerns and create a better foundation for incoming permanent teeth. Some children will still benefit from Phase 2 orthodontic treatment once more of their adult teeth have erupted. Where a second phase is needed, early treatment may help make it shorter or easier, but this varies from child to child.
Our orthodontist will explain the reasons clearly and discuss the most appropriate alternative. This may involve another orthodontic appliance, a different type of treatment or monitoring your child’s development until the time is right. The purpose of the initial assessment is to recommend what is best for your child rather than to recommend Invisalign in every case.
